A person sent on a religious mission, specifically, one sent to promote Christianity.
At Unity we support several overseas missionaries, spiritually and financially. These missionaries are in the field spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, establishing churches and providing needs for a wide variety of cultures and peoples.
The idea of mission work may seem exciting to some for various reasons; seeing exciting new places, learning new cultures and customs, meeting new folks, but the main reason to get excited about mission work is because it is God's work.
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen". (Matthew 28:19,20)
While all of these "other" reasons may hold some truth, the life of a missionary is a difficult and sacrificial life. These believers live and work in all sorts of adverse conditions in order to perform God's work. They leave their families behind, they live in poverty, they give up most creature comforts, they live in constant danger; from violent cultures, from disease, lack of proper medical care, they teach with limited resources. In some cases, their church is in a bare spot in a field without so much as a roof over their heads, they have to trek through jungles, forests and swamps, sometimes on foot, to reach the lost.
Despite all of the difficulties and roadblocks, missionaries count it as joy to serve the Lord and lead souls to Him, whatever it takes.
Our missionaries deserve all of our Love and Support, which we give wholeheartedly in Jesus' name.
"For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel"!
(1 Corinthians 9:16)
Colton Conn is our Missionary Reporter.
Mr. Conn will be keeping us abreast of all the workings of our field Missionaries. He will present monthly reports, give us details about their works, their needs, upload photos and let us know in advance when they will be visiting our Church.
