Giving is the over flow that begins from an attitude of abundance and contentment. When we feel we do not have enough, we do not give. An American proverb captures the idea of the natural inclination of our hearts, “Can all you get, get all you can, sit on the can“. God abundantly lavishes His people with love, grace, mercy, and eternal life. He further promises if we seek His kingdom first and His righteousness, He would supply our needs. Maybe you can’t rub two pennies together, but we can always give what we have out of our abundant supply. This reminds me of the beggar on the temple steps who was wanting money, but received something much greater: by the apostles who were eager to give.
“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:6 KJV
